What is the Microsoft Sticky Notes App?
Sticky Notes is a note-taking app that comes with Windows 11. This app creates sticky notes with typed text, images, and recognized URLs. Choose from several customization options, such as seven different colors of sticky notes and a "Dark" mode for the app.How to Open the Sticky Notes App
How to Open the Sticky Notes App With Search
- Step 1: Go down to the taskbar and click Start (four blue squares).
- Step 2: In the Start window click in the search bar at the top and type "sticky notes".
- Step 3: On the results screen, click one of the following to open the Sticky Notes app:
-On the left side under "Best match", click "Sticky Notes App".
-On the right side click "Sticky Notes App".
-On the middle right side, click "Open".
How to Pin the Sticky Notes App to the Taskbar With Right Click
- Step 1: Open the Sticky Notes app. Go down to the taskbar and right click the Sticky Notes app icon.
- Step 2: In the menu that opens, click "Pin to taskbar".
- Step 3: Either click the pinned Sticky Notes app icon, or right click the pinned icon and in the menu that opens, click "Sticky Notes" to open the app.
How to Open a Sticky Note With Hover
- Step 1: Open the Sticky Notes app. Go down to the taskbar and hover the mouse over the Sticky Notes app icon.

2: Two windows appear (one is the Notes list and the other is the
sticky note). Click the sticky note window to open the sticky note.

- Step 1: After opening the Sticky Notes app, hover the mouse over any edge or corner of either the Notes list or sticky note.

the mouse to resize the window. Release the mouse to stop resizing the
window.
How to Minimize the Sticky Notes App With Keyboard Shortcut
- Step 1: After opening the Sticky Notes app, on the keyboard press Ctrl + O. Both the Notes list and any sticky notes minimize and do not display on the computer screen.
How to Maximize the Sticky Notes App
- Step 1: After opening the Sticky Notes app, go down to the taskbar and hover the mouse over the Sticky Notes app icon.
- Step 2: Two windows appear above the Sticky Notes app icon (one is the Notes list and the other is the sticky note). Right click either window.
- Step 3: In the menu that opens, click "Maximize". The right clicked window maximizes and occupies the entire screen.
How to Restore the Sticky Notes App With Double Click
- Step 1: First maximize either the Notes list or a sticky note. Double click the top of the maximized window. The window is restored to its default size before being maximized.

- Step 1: First minimize all windows. Go down to the taskbar and right click the Sticky Notes app icon.
- Step 2: In the menu that opens, click "Show all notes". Both the Notes list and any sticky notes open up on the Desktop.

- Step 1: Open the Sticky Notes app.
At the top of the Notes list or a sticky note, click, hold, and drag
the mouse to move the window. Release the mouse to stop moving the
window.

- Step 1: First add an image to a sticky note. Open that sticky note and double click the image.
How to Resize the View Window
- Step 1: First view an image in a sticky note. Hover the mouse over any edge or corner of the view window, until the cursor becomes a double sided arrow. Click, hold, and drag the mouse to resize the View window. Release the mouse to stop resizing the view window.

- Step 1: View an image in a sticky note. Double click the top of the View window to maximize it.

- Step 1: First add an image to a sticky note. Open that sticky note and right click the image.
- Step 2: In the menu that opens, click "Save to device".
- Step 3: In the "Save As" window that opens, type any text to name the file and click "Save".
How to Open a Sticky Note Image in Photos
- Step 1: View an image. Go to the upper right of the View window and click the "Menu" or "..." button.
- Step 2: In the menu that opens, click "Open in Photos".
How to Edit the Description of a Sticky Note Image
- Step 1: First view an image. Go to the upper right of the View window and click the "Menu" or "..." button.
- Step 2: In the menu that opens, click "Edit description".
- Step 3: Type any text and click "Done".
Note: If the image is saved to device, the edited description becomes the image file name.

- Step 1: Open the Notes list. Go to the upper right of the Notes list and click "Settings" or the gear button.
- Step 2: In the Sticky Notes Settings window that opens, click under the "Enable Insights" section to toggle this option on.
- Step 3: Open a sticky note, and type "https://" and the URL of any website.
- Step
4: The Sticky Notes app recognizes the URL and displays an "Open Link"
button. Click the "Open Link" button to open the URL in a browser.
How to Turn "Confirm before deleting" Off With Settings
- Step 1: First open the Notes list. Go to the upper right of the Notes list and click "Settings" or the gear button.
- Step
2: In the Sticky Notes Settings window that opens, click under the
"Confirm before deleting" section to toggle this option off.

How to Cycle Forward Through All Windows
- Step 1: First open the Notes list. Go to the upper left click the "New note" or "+" button to create at least one sticky note.
- Step 2: On the keyboard press Ctrl + Tab to cycle forward through all sticky notes and the Notes list window.
How to Cycle Backwards Through All Windows
- Step 1: Open the Notes list. Go to the upper left click the "New note" or "+" button to create at least one sticky note.
- Step 2: On the keyboard press Ctrl + Shift + Tab to cycle backwards through all sticky notes and the Notes list.
How to Search For a Sticky Note With Click
- Step 1: First open the Notes list. Click inside the search bar at the top and type any text. In the search results list, double click the sticky note to open it.
How to Clear the Search Bar With Click
- Step 1: Click the "X" button on the right side of the search bar.
How to Exit the Search Bar With Click
- Step 1: Click anywhere inside the Notes list to exit the search bar.
How to Move One Word to the Left
- Step 1: Click inside an edited sticky note. On the keyboard press Ctrl + Left Arrow key to move the insertion point, or blinking vertical line, one word to the left. Continue pressing Ctrl + Left Arrow key to continue moving one word to the left.
How to Move One Word to the Right
- Step 1: First click inside an edited sticky note. On the keyboard press Ctrl + Right Arrow key to move the insertion point, or blinking vertical line, one word to the right. Continue pressing Ctrl + Right Arrow key to continue moving one word to the right.
How to Move to the Start of a Line
- Step 1: Click inside an edited sticky note. On the keyboard press the Home key (some computers accept this shortcut as Fn + Home). The insertion point, or blinking vertical line, jumps to the start of the current line.
How to Move to the End of a Line
- Step 1: First click inside an edited sticky note. On the keyboard press the End key (some computers accept this shortcut as Fn + End). The insertion point, or blinking vertical line, jumps to the end of the current line.

- Step 1: Click inside an edited sticky note. On the keyboard press Ctrl + Backspace to delete the previous word. Continue pressing Ctrl + Backspace to continue deleting the previous word, one at a time.
How to Delete the Next Word
- Step 1: First click inside an edited sticky note. On the keyboard press Ctrl + Delete to delete the next word. Continue pressing Ctrl + Delete to continue deleting the next word, one at a time.
