How to Create a Sticky Note With Click

  • Step 1: First open the Sticky Notes app. Go to the upper left corner of either the Notes list or a sticky note, and click the "New note" or "+" button.

How to Create a Sticky Note With Right Click

  • Step 1: Go down to the taskbar and right click the open or pinned Sticky Notes app icon.

  • Step 2: In the menu that opens, click "+ New note".

How to Create a Sticky Note With Search

  • Step 1: Go down to the taskbar and click the Start (four blue squares) button.

  • Step 2: In the Start window that opens, click in the search bar at the top and type "sticky notes".

How to Create a Sticky Note With Keyboard Shortcut

  • Step 1: Click inside either the Notes list or a sticky note, and on the keyboard press Ctrl + N.

How to Change the Color of a Sticky Note

  • Step 1: Open a sticky note and click the "Menu" or "..." button in the upper right.

  • Step 2: In the menu that opens, click one of the colors at the top to switch to that color.

How to Edit a Sticky Note

  • Step 1: Click inside a sticky note, and type any text.

How to Select Text With Double Click

  • Step 1: Edit a sticky note and double click any text.

How to Select Text With Mouse

  • Step 1: First type any text inside a sticky note. Click, hold, and drag the mouse to the left or right of the text to select it. Release the mouse to stop selecting text.

How to Select Text With Keyboard

  • Step 1: Type any text inside a sticky note. On the keyboard hold Shift and press or hold the arrow keys to select the text.

How to Select All Text With Keyboard Shortcut

  • Step 1: Edit a sticky note and on the keyboard press Ctrl + A.

How to Delete Text With Keyboard

  • Method 1: Edit a sticky note and select any text. On the keyboard press Delete.

  • Method 2: Type any text inside a sticky note. Click to the right of any text, and on the keyboard either press or hold Backspace.

How to Format Text With Click

  • Step 2: At the bottom of the sticky note, click one of the formatting buttons to add or remove that formatting.

  • Alternatively, click one of the formatting buttons first and type any text. The Sticky Notes app automatically applies that formatting to the text.

How to Format Text With Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Step 1: Edit a sticky note and select any text. On the keyboard press:
- Ctrl + B to add or remove bold formatting.
- Ctrl + I to add or remove italic formatting.
- Ctrl + U to add or remove underlined formatting.
- Ctrl + T to add or remove strikethrough formatting.
- Ctrl + Shift + L to add or remove bullet point formatting.

How to Copy Text With Right Click

  • Step 1: First edit a sticky note and select any text. Right click anywhere inside the sticky note.

  • Step 2: In the menu that opens, click "View image".

How to Resize the View Window

  • Step 1: First view an image in a sticky note. Hover the mouse over any edge or corner of the view window, until the cursor becomes a double sided arrow. Click, hold, and drag the mouse to resize the View window. Release the mouse to stop resizing the view window.

How to Maximize or Restore the View Window

How to Close the View Window

How to Save an Image With Menu

The cursor clicks the "Menu" or "..." button in the upper right of the View window.

 

  • Step 2: In the menu that opens, click "Save to device".

A menu appears below the Menu button of the View window. The cursor clicks the "Save to device" option in the menu.

 

 

  • Step 3: In the "Save As" window that opens, type any text to name the file and click "Save".
In the "Save As" window, a blue rectangle surrounds the "File name:" field that displays "example1". The cursor clicks the "Save" button at the bottom of the window.




How to Save an Image With Right Click

The cursor right clicks the image in the sticky note.

 

 

  • Step 2: In the menu that opens, click "Save to device".

A menu appears above the image on the sticky note. The cursor clicks the "Save to device" option in the menu.

 

  • Step 3: In the "Save As" window that opens, type any text to name the file and click "Save".

  • Step 1: View an image. Go to the upper right of the View window and click the "Menu" or "..." button.

How to Edit the Description of a Sticky Note Image

  • Step 1: First view an image. Go to the upper right of the View window and click the "Menu" or "..." button.

  • Step 2: In the menu that opens, click "Edit description".

A menu appears in the upper right of the View window. The cursor clicks the "Edit description" option in the menu.

 

  • Step 3: Type any text and click "Done".

  • Step 1: View an image. Go to the upper right of the View window and click the "Menu" or "..." button. The cursor clicks the "Menu" or "..." button in the upper right of the View window.

 

  • Step 2: In the menu that opens, click "Edit description".

A menu appears in the upper right of the View window. The cursor clicks the "Edit description" option in the menu.

 

  • Step 3: Click the "X" button and click "Done".

How to Enable Insights on a Sticky Note

  • Step 1: Open the Notes list. Go to the upper right of the Notes list and click "Settings" or the gear button.

  • Step 2: In the Sticky Notes Settings window that opens, click under the "Enable Insights" section to toggle this option on.

  • Step 3: Open a sticky note, and type "https://" and the URL of any website.

An edited sticky note displays the text of "https://quicklyhowtutorials.blogspot.com" which appears as a blue hyperlink.

 

  • Step 4: The Sticky Notes app recognizes the URL and displays an "Open Link" button. Click the "Open Link" button to open the URL in a browser.

Note: In Windows 10, Enable Insights recognized dates, times, phone numbers and addresses typed into a sticky note, and Cortana facilitated additional functions such as creating reminders or opening maps (Thurott, 2016). However, as of Fall 2023, Cortana was deprecated as a standalone app (End of Support For Cortana, n.d.), and thus Enable Insights only recognizes web addresses as of this writing.



How to Turn "Confirm before deleting" Off With Settings

  • Step 1: First open the Notes list. Go to the upper right of the Notes list and click "Settings" or the gear button.

  • Step 2: In the Sticky Notes Settings window that opens, click under the "Confirm before deleting" section to toggle this option off.

How to Turn "Confirm before deleting" Off With Click

  • Step 1: Edit and delete a sticky note. In the deletion confirmation message that appears, click "Don't ask me again" and "Delete".
