How to Edit a Notepad File

  • Step 1: Click inside a Notepad window, or click a Notepad tab. Type any text.

  • Method 1: Double click the text.

How to Delete Text With Keyboard

  • Method 1: Select any text, and on the keyboard press the "Delete" key. The selected text is deleted.

How to Apply Match Case to the Find Window

  • Step 1: First open the Find window. On the far right side of the Find window, to the left of the "Close" or "X" button, click the "More options" button.

How to Apply Wrap Around to the Find Window

  • Step 1: First open the Find window. On the far right side of the Find window, to the left of the "Close" or "X" button, click the "More options" button.

How to Clear the Find Search Bar

  • Step 1: In the open Find window, click the "Close" or "X" button on the right side of the search bar. The search bar clears as the previous search term disappears.

How to Replace Text With Menu

  • Step 1: Go to the upper left of an edited Notepad window and click the "Edit" button.

  • Step 2: In the menu that opens, click "Replace".

  • Step 3: In the Notepad Settings window that opens, click the drop-down arrows to adjust the font family, style, and size. After clicking the back arrow in the upper left corner, the Notepad window displays the newly adjusted font.

How to Change the Reading Order

  • Step 1: Right click inside a Notepad window.

 The edited Notepad window displays the text of "This file has been edited". The cursor right clicks the middle of the Notepad window.

 

  • Step 2: In the menu that opens, click "Right-to-left reading order" to toggle this option on or off.

A menu appears where the edited Notepad window was right clicked. The cursor hovers over the "Right-to-left reading order" option in the menu. A checkmark appears to the left of the "Right-to-left reading order" option. The edited Notepad window has the text of "This file has been edited" on the right side of the window.

-With "Right-to-left reading order" on, a check mark appears to the left of the "Right-to-left reading order" option. The text displays on the right side of the Notepad window. This option is intended for right-to-left languages such as Arabic, Persian, and Hebrew.

-With "Right-to-left reading order" off, no check mark appears to the left of the "Right-to-left reading order" option. The text displays on the left side of the screen. This is the default option. 

A menu appears where the edited Notepad window was right clicked. The cursor hovers over the "Right-to-left reading order" option in the menu. No check mark appears the the left of the "Right-to-left reading order" option. The edited Notepad has the text of "This file has been edited" on the left side of the window.




How to Insert Unicode Control Characters

  • Step 1: Right click inside a Notepad window.

The cursor right clicks the space to the left of the text "This text reads from left to right" in the Notepad window.

 

  • Step 2: In the menu that opens, hover over "Insert Unicode control characters". In the second menu that opens, click one of the options to insert it. If "Show Unicode control characters" is turned on, the inserted Unicode control character will appear in the Notepad window.

  • Step 1: Right click inside a Notepad window.

  • Step 2: In the menu that opens, click "Show Unicode control characters" to toggle this option on or off.

How to Apply Reconversion

  • Step 1: First download a language pack from the Windows 11 settings (if a language pack is already installed, skip to step 9). Go down to the taskbar and click the Start (four blue squares) button.

The computer screen displays the Desktop. The cursor clicks the Start or four blue squares button on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.

 

  • Step 2: In the Start window that opens, click the "Settings" button.

In the open Start window, the cursor clicks the "Settings" button.

 

  • Step 3: In the Settings window that opens, go to the left menu and click "Time & language".

The cursor clicks the "Time & language" option in the left menu of the Settings window.

 

  • Step 4: In the "Time & language" window click the "Language & region" button.

The cursor clicks the "Language & region" button in the "Time & language" window.

 

  • Step 5: In the "Language & region" window click the "Add a language" button.

The cursor clicks the "Add a language" button on the far right side of the "Preferred languages" section in the "Language & region" window.

 

  • Step 6: In the "Choose a language to install" window, type a language, click a language in the list, and click the "Next" button.

A "Choose a language to install' window appears above the grayed out Settings window. A blue rectangle surrounds the word "Japanese" in the search bar at the top of the "Choose a language to install" window. A second blue rectangle surrounds the Japanese option in the list below the search bar. A third blue rectangle surrounds the "Next" button at the bottom of the "Choose a language to install" window.

 

  • Step 7: Click the "Install" button.

The cursor clicks the "Install" button at the bottom of the "Choose a language to install" window.

 

  • Step 8: Wait for the language pack to install, then exit the Settings window by clicking the "Close" or "X" button in the upper right corner.

  • Step 9: Go down to the taskbar and click the "ENG" button.

The computer screen displays the Desktop. The cursor clicks the "ENG" button on the lower right side of the taskbar at the bottom of the computer screen.

 

  • Step 10: In the menu that opens, click the installed language option such as "Japanese Microsoft IME".

The computer screen displays the Desktop. A menu appears above the "ENG" button on the lower right side of the taskbar at the bottom of the computer screen. The cursor clicks the "Japanese Microsoft IME" option in the menu.

 

  • Step 11: Open a Notepad file, then go down to the taskbar and click the "A" button. The text input should change from the English alphabet to the installed language pack.

  • Step 13: In the menu that opens, click "Reconversion". In the menu that opens, click an option. Notepad replaces the selected text with the chosen Reconversion option.
