What is GIMP?

GIMP is an acronym for "GNU Image Manipulation Program". As an image editing software similar to Adobe Photoshop, GIMP can crop photos and apply artistic filters to images. GIMP is a free open source software with source code that anyone can modify. Try GIMP today to embellish graphic designs, photography, illustrations, and more!

 

How to Download GIMP

  • Step 1: Open a browser; double click the Firefox shortcut to open the Firefox browser.

  • Step 2: Go to a search engine; click in the address bar at the top, type "duckduckgo.com" and press Enter.

  • Step 3: On the search engine site, click in the search bar, type "GIMP", and press Enter.

  • Step 4: In the search results, click "https://www.gimp.org".

  • Step 7: In the download window that opens, click "Save File".
A download window opens. At the bottom of the download window, the cursor clicks the "Save File" button.

  • Step 8: In the left menu click "Desktop" to save the GIMP setup file to the Desktop. At the bottom of the window, click "Save".
The Save window opens. The field at the top of the Save window reads "Desktop". At the bottom of the Save window, the cursor clicks the "Save" button.

The GIMP download is now complete.

 

How to Install GIMP Without Shortcut

  • Step 1: Go to the upper right of the browser window and click the "-" or Minimize button.
The browser window displays the GIMP download page. At the upper right of the browser window, the cursor clicks the Minimize or "hyphen" button.

  • Step 2: On the Desktop, locate and double click the GIMP setup file.
The computer screen displays the Desktop. The cursor double clicks the GIMP installation file on the Desktop.

  • Step 3: In the window that opens, click "Install for all users". If the message "Allow this program to make changes on this computer?" appears, click "Yes".
The installation window reads "Select install mode". In the middle of the window, the cursor clicks the "Install for all users" option.

  • Step 4: Select the installation language, and click "OK".
The installation window reads, "Select the language to use during the installation". There is a dropdown menu that displays "English". At the bottom of the installation window, the cursor clicks the "OK" button.

  • Step 5: At the bottom of the window, click "Install".
At the bottom right of the installation window, to the left of the "Cancel" button, the cursor clicks the "Install" button.

  • Step 6: Wait for the installation to finish, and click "Finish".
At the bottom right of the installation window, the cursor clicks the "Finish" button.

The GIMP installation is now complete.


How to Open GIMP Without Shortcut

  • Step 1: Go down to the taskbar and click Start (four blue squares).

  • Step 2: At the top of the window, click in the Search bar and type "gimp".
The computer screen displays the opened Start window. At the top of the Start window, the cursor clicks inside the search bar.

  • Step 3: In the search results, click one of the following:

-On the left side under "Best Match", click "GIMP".

-On the right side click "GIMP".

-On the right side click "Open".

In the Search results window, three locations are highlighted with a blue rectangle. The cursor can click on the "GIMP App" on the left side under "Best Match", or the "GIMP App" on the right side, or the "Open" option on the middle right side.

After loading, the GIMP window opens.

How to Install GIMP With Shortcut

  • Step 1: First download GIMP (see How to Download GIMP).
  • Step 2: Go to the upper right of the browser window and click the "-" or Minimize button.

  • Step 3: On the Desktop, locate and double click the GIMP setup file.

In the first installation window that displays the GIMP license agreement, the cursor clicks the "Next" button at the bottom. In the second installation window that displays "Select Destination location", the cursor clicks the "Next" button at the bottom. In the third installation window that reads "Select components", the cursor clicks the "Next" button at the bottom.
  • Step 8: Click "Create a desktop icon" and at the bottom of the window, click "Next".
In the installation window that reads "Select additional tasks", the cursor clicks the "Create a desktop icon" option. At the bottom of the installation window, the cursor clicks the "Next" button.

  • Step 9: Click "Install".
At the bottom right of the installation window, the cursor clicks the "Install" button.

  • Step 10: Wait for the install to finish, and click "Finish".

At the bottom right of the installation window, the cursor clicks the "Finish" button.

The GIMP installation is now complete.


How to Open GIMP With Shortcut

  • Step 1: On the Desktop, locate and double click the GIMP shortcut.
The computer screen displays the Desktop. The cursor double clicks the GIMP shortcut icon (the GIMP logo).

After loading, the GIMP window opens.

The default GIMP window is open, displaying an empty work area and several toolbars.

 

How to Install GIMP via Microsoft Store

  • Step 1: Open a browser; double click the Firefox shortcut to open the Firefox browser.

How to Pin GIMP to the Taskbar

  • Step 1: Go down to the taskbar and click Start (four blue squares).

  • Step 2: Click in the search bar at the top and type "gimp".

In the Search results window, the cursor clicks the "Pin to taskbar" option.


  • Step 4: Go down to the taskbar and click the pinned GIMP icon to open GIMP.

Below the search results window, the cursor goes to the taskbar and clicks the pinned GIMP icon.

 

After loading, the window opens.

How to Pin GIMP to Start

  • Step 1: Go down to the taskbar and click Start (four blue squares).

  • Step 2: Click in the search bar at the top and type "gimp".

How to Uninstall GIMP

  • Step 1: Go down to the taskbar and click Start (four blue squares).

  • Step 2: In the window that opens, click "Settings".
In the Start window, the cursor clicks "Settings" (the gear icon).

  • Step 3: On the left menu, click "Apps".
In the Settings window, in the middle of the left menu, the cursor clicks the "Apps" option.

  • Step 4: At the top, click "Installed apps".
At the top of the "Apps" window, the cursor clicks the "Installed apps" option.

  • Step 5: In the search bar type "gimp" or scroll down to locate GIMP.
In the "Installed apps" window, a list of apps appears.

  • Step 6: Go to "GIMP" and on the far right side, click the "..." button.
The "Installed apps" window displays a list of apps and focuses on the GIMP app. On the far right side of the GIMP app, the cursor clicks the "..." option.

  • Step 7: In the menu that opens, click "Uninstall".
After clicking the "..." option, a menu opens and the cursor clicks the "Uninstall" option.

  • Step 8: Click "Uninstall", "Yes", and "OK".

In the first uninstall confirmation window that reads "This app and its related info will be uninstalled", the cursor clicks the "Uninstall" button at the bottom. In the second uninstall confirmation window that reads "Are you sure you want to completely remove GIMP and all of its components?", the cursor clicks the "Yes" button at the bottom. In the final uninstall confirmation window that reads "GIMP was successfully removed from your computer", the cursor clicks the "OK" button at the bottom.
