What is GIMP?
GIMP is an acronym for "GNU Image Manipulation Program". As an image editing software similar to Adobe Photoshop, GIMP can crop photos and apply artistic filters to images. GIMP is a free open source software with source code that anyone can modify. Try GIMP today to embellish graphic designs, photography, illustrations, and more!
How to Download GIMP
- Step 1: Open a browser; double click the Firefox shortcut to open the Firefox browser.
- Step 2: Go to a search engine; click in the address bar at the top, type "duckduckgo.com" and press Enter.
- Step 3: On the search engine site, click in the search bar, type "GIMP", and press Enter.
- Step 4: In the search results, click "https://www.gimp.org".
- Step 5: On the official GIMP website, go to the top and click "Download".
- Step 6: Scroll down and click the orange "Download GIMP directly" button.
- Step 7: In the download window that opens, click "Save File".
- Step 8: In the left menu click "Desktop" to save the GIMP setup file to the Desktop. At the bottom of the window, click "Save".
The GIMP download is now complete.
How to Install GIMP Without Shortcut
- Step 1: Go to the upper right of the browser window and click the "-" or Minimize button.
- Step 2: On the Desktop, locate and double click the GIMP setup file.
- Step 3: In the window that opens, click "Install for all users". If the message "Allow this program to make changes on this computer?" appears, click "Yes".
- Step 4: Select the installation language, and click "OK".
- Step 5: At the bottom of the window, click "Install".
- Step 6: Wait for the installation to finish, and click "Finish".
The GIMP installation is now complete.
How to Open GIMP Without Shortcut
- Step 1: Go down to the taskbar and click Start (four blue squares).
- Step 2: At the top of the window, click in the Search bar and type "gimp".
- Step 3: In the search results, click one of the following:
-On the left side under "Best Match", click "GIMP".
-On the right side click "GIMP".
-On the right side click "Open".
After loading, the GIMP window opens.
How to Install GIMP With Shortcut
- Step 1: First download GIMP (see How to Download GIMP).
- Step 2: Go to the upper right of the browser window and click the "-" or Minimize button.
- Step 3: On the Desktop, locate and double click the GIMP setup file.
- Step 4: In the window that opens, click "Install for all users". If the message "Allow this program to make changes on this computer?" appears, click "Yes".
- Step 5: Select the installation language and click "OK".
- Step 6: At the bottom of the window, click "Customize".
- Step 7: For the next three windows, go to the bottom and click the "Next" button.
- Step 8: Click "Create a desktop icon" and at the bottom of the window, click "Next".
- Step 9: Click "Install".
- Step 10: Wait for the install to finish, and click "Finish".
The GIMP installation is now complete.
How to Open GIMP With Shortcut
- Step 1: On the Desktop, locate and double click the GIMP shortcut.
After loading, the GIMP window opens.
How to Install GIMP via Microsoft Store
- Step 1: Open a browser; double click the Firefox shortcut to open the Firefox browser.

- Step 2: Click in the search bar at the top and type "gimp".
- Step 3: In the search results, go down to the lower right side and click "Pin to taskbar".
- Step 4: Go down to the taskbar and click the pinned GIMP icon to open GIMP.
After loading, the window opens.
How to Pin GIMP to Start
- Step 1: Go down to the taskbar and click Start (four blue squares).
- Step 2: Click in the search bar at the top and type "gimp".
- Step 3: In the search results, go to the lower right side and click "Pin to Start".
- Step 4: Click the Start button (four blue squares) twice. Click the pinned GIMP icon to open GIMP.
After loading, GIMP opens.
How to Uninstall GIMP
- Step 1: Go down to the taskbar and click Start (four blue squares).
- Step 2: In the window that opens, click "Settings".
- Step 3: On the left menu, click "Apps".
- Step 4: At the top, click "Installed apps".
- Step 5: In the search bar type "gimp" or scroll down to locate GIMP.
- Step 6: Go to "GIMP" and on the far right side, click the "..." button.
- Step 7: In the menu that opens, click "Uninstall".
- Step 8: Click "Uninstall", "Yes", and "OK".
